Blackmouth Fishing

The Puget Sound resident King Salmon aka Blackmouth started off with multiple smaller fish. The WDFW decided to close the fishery in area 9, 8-1, and 8-2 to allow these fish to grow a bit. The fishery re-opened on Feb. 16th. I had a chance to fish twice with Frank R. on his Hewecraft 22 Pacific Explorer and with David K.

We fished both times at Kingston and had troubles with the seals. Both time, I hooked some keeper sized fish only to loose them to fur bag seals! What a bummer and my ire for these salmon predators.

Where are the Orcas and Great White sharks when you need them???

I brought the kids with me one day as David was gracious to pick us up in Kingston and fished, but the afternoon winds prevailed causing us to end the day early. There was plenty of bait being pushed up against the contour, but again, damn seals!
